Bike is creeping forward / creeping - Ideas ??

Any ideas guys n gals ??

When the wheel is off the ground and the bike is in nuetral the back wheel spins with enough force not to be able to spot it with a foot. This also happens in gear with the clutch pulled in and the bike seems to creep a little at the lights etc. I know this is usually due to warped clutch plates or loose cable but the cable is taught and iv checked the plates and there nice and flat and the within service limits.

    This is normal.
Its the momentum on the engine turning (even though the clutch is disengaged).

Its like peddling backwards on a pushbike with the rear wheel off the floor. The rear wheel will still rotate. (amplified by the rpm of the engine)

    Mine does it too.

    Dont worry, apply the brake!

hmmm. Its just that it doesnt or never has happened on all of my other bikes. And if it does, then its only slightly. The thing is, it didnt used to do this.. I read on another forum that in some cases, it can mean the clutch basket needs replacing.

Surely if the clutch is disengaged, then the driveshaft shouldnt turn.

As long as the wheel can be stopped easily from doing this (be careful if you're going to try, and also make sure the bike is not stone-cold because the clutch can stick quite tightly ) I would not worry about it. Clutch baskets are not the strongest point on the AT (also causes clattering during idle). It can indeed make the clutch-plates' movements a bit "sticky". On my AT it started to effect fast accelleration (felt like a half-automatic clutch ). What surprised me was that I could not make the clutch slip under heavy load once it was running normally, so I suspected already it was not just worn plates. When I opened it up, I found the plates were indeed still thick enough, the springs were fine, but the basket's "teeth" felt wobbly. I replaced the basket for a nearly new one (also fresh plates and rings because they had black/blue burn-spots, new springs too). That was 12.000 miles ago... and I can already feel it coming back again (including more clattering when idling). It is just one of those minor design faults, I have decided not to worry about it

BTW: Instead of replacing the basket you could try to file the teeth flat again. I suspect though this will give more free play between the base and the basket, making it even wear quicker than before

I should have said my @ does not creep with the clutch held fully in, it only does it while in gear sitting on the stand, it stops if you apply rear brake.
