Build quality - country of assembly

    Hello,

I have just sold my 2001 TA, and are now in the market for an @.

It will most probably be a 07 or 07a.

I think I have read in the forum about where the different models are assembled. Japan or Italy or ....? However, I am not able to get back to it.

Is there anyone of you experts who can advise if the AT actually are assembled in different countries according to model year, and if yes, are there any experience about the build quality?

I thought it was only the manufacturing of the Transalp (along with the Deauville and CB500) that was moved to Italy at some point in the late 90's?

I understand Italian Honda's are not always as well put together as their Japanese counterparts. So imagine what the finish on the AT would have been, had it been made in Italy?

    Aye up Meaty.

I think the RD04's have a better reputation for build quality than the later AT's.

All AT's were built in Japan.

    Thank you.
That was a relief. The AT quality must be better than the Italian TA's. My 2001 TA was a garage and sunshine bike ( I know that it is not appropriate in this forum). Nevertheless I found new rust spots everytime I washed and polished her, which was quite often ( again).

Hope my new AT would behave better in my garage...

Japanese it might be, but finish is not the strongest point of the AT either I'm afraid. In my experience, it helps to keep an eye on frame-paint, top-fairing sub-frame paint (or lack of it), lower point of the exhaust, fork-legs, brake-calipers and wheel-rims / spokes.

If you keep using it in summer and park it in the garage there is probably not so much to worry about anyway, unless others here will tell you differently?

I am not sure whether the AT's finish is actually worse than average, I was just expecting more given its reputation of being "indestructable". Which mainly seems to apply to the engine.

I've fallen off it and had it land on its fairing cowl/handlebars first, literally upside down.. And still rode it home..
