    Center Stand

No wonder Honda don't fit the bleedin things as standard

After I had picked myself up off the floor at the realisation that the exhaust had to come off, I set about the task, and it came off easily. I stupidly decided that was the worst bit over with.

Talk about a false sense of security.

One word - Springs. Whilst trying to fit these buggers I discovered at least five new swear words. Think Basil Fawlty, car and tree branch and you have a fairly accurate picture.

Best laugh now(funny now, not a few hours ago) was, I was so knackered from fitting the springs I couldn't muster enough umph to try the the stand out!

Just to add insult to injury, when I was in the garage I somehow missed the postman trying to deliver my seat back to me from G.A Wells

On a lighter note, my SW Motech bars arrived yesterday, as well as the center stand so I shall hopefully be having a rather more relaxed afternoon in the garage fiitting them.

The morning session was not funny.

I find the easiest way to put my @ on the stand is to push the stand to the ground with my right foot and whilst keeping my right foot hard down on the stand pull up and back on the lifting handle which is attached to the pillion footrest bracket ( I think only genuine Honda stands come with this handle) ,hope that helps.

I have never fitted a center stand because it was already on, but I do know using it can be a pain. Litterally, I once hurt my back badly when pushing the bike on the stand, after which it was difficult enough to use the side stand, balancing 225 kgs of bike while in painful agony.

I find it goes "best" by putting your weight on the "left-foot" of the stand, holding the handle-bars with your left-hand while using the right on the rear-footpeg as a handle, and using a bit of "swing" while pulling the bike backwards. But I admit I only use the d*mn thing when I need to work on the bike

For installing center stand springs on my GS and AT I used an old pair
of fairly heavy duty pliers where I filed or grinded a V groove into each
jaw. The spring is now held between the 2 grooves and is less likely to slip.

As for putting it ON the center stand....well...if it was not for the touratech crash bars and touratech bag mounts to pull UP on....Mmmm...well then I would probably use only the side stand.

I must admit to having had the dealer fit mine as I couldn't be arsed with it. Don't have a problem getting it on the stand with the pannier frames fitted as their in exactly the right place to heave the bike up onto it. It's even easier with the panniers fitted as I can lean against then as a bit of extra leverage as well. The handle supplied with the stand was a complete waste of time.

yeah i think i gave myself a hernia & pooped myself a little the last time i tried to put the @ on its centre stand

i think it needs a 3 foot extension bar on it so you can lever it up

Pheww, fitting my centre stand. Had great help from this forum, Mal in Glasgow to name but one. Used loads of washers, mighty mole grips, and brute strength. Have not fitted grab rail yet, to be honest no great problem getting her on to the centre stand. Just grab the nearest bit of metal and PULL.

As mentioned by one or two others, grabbing the crash bars is the key. Then just lean back and watch her go up.
