When the bike is cold and on the centre stand the wheel spins when the engine is running, but when the engine's warm this does not happen. Is this normal? Should the clutch be adjusted when the engine's warm or old?

I think its normal yeah. I'm by no means Captain Technical, but I think it's to do with the viscosity of the oil when the engine's cold. ie It's thicker when the engine is cold so will turn your wheel, whereas when its warm its a little thinner. Does that make sense?
Sure someone will be along shortly to give you a proper explanation, using all the right words!![]()
Yeah its been the same on every bike I've had.Originally Posted by lootch67

This is what I was hoping to hear. Thanks!
Mine does it.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.
1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
Yep - on some bike's its more pronounced than others.
Last year I had to repair a snapped clutch cable on my WR450. - At the time I'd never really thought too much about the peculiarities of wet clutches, so when the clutch still dragged like mad (engine off, bike in 1st, back wheel would skid along the concrete garage floor rather than turn) I just assumed something more serious was awry, so I cancelled my planned visit to the MX track and began a day of hardcore sulking.
After finding out there was nothing at all wrong with my bike, and once the engine was warm it all went back to normal (but not till the next day) then I was REALLY pissed off!![]()
Is normal, is fine, but if it still drags when hot, Mr Clutch may be taking a vacation.
and mine![]()
