    Are XRV750 headers stainless steel?

I've noticed a few XRV750 exhaust header auctions on ebay that claim they're stainless steel.

Just wondering if that's really true. It looks like the front pipe has a different angle than the Transalp, it may match the Hawk 650 engine, which would make an engine transplant into my Transalp considerably easier...

Does a one legged duck swim in circles?
I believe most manufacturers use SS or maybe
even titanium. I just recently saw some ceramic
    coated headers on a 1150GS.

If they aren't stainless...then what else could they be??
    Titanium...no way.
Your magnet won't stick to them. Yup, SS.

They are stainless steel: they start showing this bronze-brown discolouring after a while which is typical for SS. Don't think SS means they will last forever: Headers have a tough time getting really hot with the occasional shower of rain and dirt, not to forget internal moisture at the lowest point near the collector. They will rot eventually but it will take a while before that happens (usually after the silencer has fallen apart).

Those more elderly viewers will remember when bike exhausts always used to be mild steel crome plated!

Not necessarily it's a common misconception try sticking a magnet to your SS sink or cutlery, oh yes it will stick, it's only the austenitic grades of SS that aren't magnetic

It does appear that while I've been away growing old there has been a general trend towards SS header pipes

Even austenitic grades can become slightly magnetic, especially if sheared or hammered. I used to work in a scrap yard that supplied AISI 316 stainless to a compass manufacturer. I'm not making this, up but after I'd separated 304 (less molybdenum) and 321 (had additional titanium) from the 316 (2-3% molybdenum)with a portable spectroscope, I had to use a magnet on a bit of hairy string (highly scientific) to make sure that only non magnetic stainless was sent to them. We always got 50% rejected despite this. I stopped using the hairy stringed magnet without telling anyone and just handed over the 316 unchecked. Still got 50% rejected, but less work for me.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I work at a scrapyard just now.... and uhhh that doesn't sound anything like the sort of slack attitude that any of us would have.

The 600 and 650 engines have a different angle that the headers leave the head, I dare say the 750 will be different again as it's a bored/stroked 650.
