    tick-over - stalling

What's your idling speed (my copy of Haines is round a mate's house).
Mines not much over 1000 but every now and then just drops and the engine cuts out. It fires up with a flick of the starter button but it has happened a few times as I pull up at traffic lights and it's bothering me. Am I being too tight on the fuel consumption? Should I set the idling speed higher?

Mide idles at around 1200rpm when it's behaving itself...it's always been that way and I dont see any reason to change it. Mine does the odd cutty-outty thing too sometimes though, maybe ai need a new air filter or to do the dreaded plug change again. Sigh.

Mine's usually round 1000 rpm and ticking over happily.
I remember it started cutting out at running temperature when that $£%! <grumble> infamous choke got sticky again.

Now that I think of it, my AT's been behaving nicely for months now after a long period of (almost) weekly mayhem and other types of general discomfort... It's quite unsettling really....

My thoughts exactly! Mines behaving well too at the moment....well, apart from the speedo not working, the trip meter bulbs not lighting, the brakes binding and some unidentified "feedback" through the bars on braking possibly wheel bearings that is. Not bad going really! At least it starts when I want it to now anyway. Small mercies and all that. :P

Mines about 1,000-1100 rpm. I find that I have to reset it slightly if it's very cold or very hot (about the same time I alter the clock for BST).I usually set it after I've finished the long run home so it's definitely at full working temperature.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I'd just done my motorcycle courier impersonation, speeding in to Mayfair to drop off some work at a bank, then popping to theatre land to pick up some tickets for the wife, then coming home, so I'd been riding for a good hour and a quarter.
I bought all the bits and bobs to do a service recently and haven't got round to it, so it's probably just in need of a change.

the trip meter has bulbs - mine has never lit up and in fact only my speedo lights up the other instruments are all dark! - i'm guessing it's time to remove the fairing and replace some bulbs!

The sensation when you're riding in the dark and that last bulb goes out is interesting.

I basically never ever use the oem speedo. I've done almost 40k miles on this bike and I'm still not used to the clock being in miles instead of kms because I go fully by revs/ear. And yet when I don't have that orange glow in front of me it's distracting as hell.

By the way, if the AT is anything like the NX (and I have a sneaking suspicion that it may very well be) then the bulbs are a bit odd: Shop manual said "Instrument light: 12V 1.7W x4", which is in fact true, but when I'd bought 4 bulbs I was in for a bit of a surprise:

The problems you have with cutting out sound the same as a fault I had about a year ago.
The choke cable splits into two and quite often it gets a bit stiff and dry where it divides.. because of this the cable might not drop back properly, you think the choke is off, but its not...the engine then cuts out even if warmed up.
If this is the problem you may be able to tell by checking the plugs.

does anyone know where ya can get the little bulb from the digital trip meter - it looks like it has a silver bit on it - can i just use a normal plain one or will it not work - wot colour is the original??

    thanks for the info!
