    Alien caliper eating monster

Ive just spent the weekend servicing my brakes to find that all the pistons were a bit tight, well seized actually, but worst of all is that part of one of the calipers has corroded so much around the edge of the piston that the first seal is partly visible (bearing in mind the first seal is just a dust catcher)..... If I clean it well with plenty of silicon grease can I still use it.
RWB rd07, remus can, dynojet and K&N filter, givi racks, givi hard cases, oxford soft luggage, tourance tires, 12v power socket, oxford heated grips, centre stand, touring scottoiler, very bright headlights.oh yes and a tank cover and bag.

Maverick's brakes are in the same condition. They still wok pretty well, but I thing your brakes will be more prone to seazing in future. Time to start saving for those new calipers

    Same here:

On my AT it started on one caliper (see pic). I kept using the bike because like you said it is the dust-ring peeping out, so no immediate danger for leaking, although more chance of course for dust getting in having a go at the other seals. I was lucky to find a replacement caliper (just the right side) on eBay for 20 quid, almost as good as new.
I am afraid new calipers from Honda are really expensive (it's not without reason why they are gold-coloured )

    Good luck!

No because it is part of the lip that the dust seal seats in that starts corroding away. I have never seen calipers self destruct like these before in my life - they are truly terrible.

well i am thinking about striping mine right down give them a very gentle sand blast and the apply 2 k acid etch primer industrial standard bake it for ten mins , then apply a phostphate powder coat bake that for 12mins , then apply silver metallic stoveing paint . or i might use a chromate wich we use when spraying the tank bits for ministry of defence . yes i know i am a paintspraying nerd

This clearly sets the experts apart from the people that don't watch Ready-Steady-Cook

well i think when the brakes were made i think they skipped a stage acid etch primer it should always be used when painting castings our family run paint shop paints rocker covers for mini and shocks for kona sports both of these r made of castings and it is a big must must to etch and then bake it first before applying topcoat ! other wise you get all sorts of problems .................... as we r seeing here with the brakes on our @

i think that the calipers on the CB1000 and 750 are the same so that could be an option for you
