Yeah, thing is the position of the sensor is adjustable (slotted mounting holes). Rather unhelpfully, there's no instructions for setting it up in the haynes manual, it just says "don't mess".

On the TL (yep, different bike I know, but same principle) the TPS is set up once the throttle bodies have been synchronised and the idle speed set. On those, you can bridge a connector under the seat to turn the temperature gauge into a display of which way the TPS needs to be moved. On the AT, no idea.

I'm afraid my 'XRV750P' manual doesn't even mention it, sorry mate. Looked in Fuel and Ignition sections, and glanced at the electrical diagrams (How does anyone understand those things?)

I rode mine for a few tankfuls with the connector unplugged some years ago. Didn't notice any difference with performance of fuel economy.

    That's interesting.
I wonder if the (seemingly) worse mpg of the older models is simply because of the needles / jets having worn more

Well, the end of the choke cable on the left hand side it a right pig to get at - can't get a spanner on with the carb in place. On the right hand side, it was accidentally put in a fairly accessible position. Clearly a dreadful oversight. Honda needed to find something to restrict access. I imagine they raided the parts bin and that sensor was the ideal thing to place in the way.
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle
