    Melvin Hunter - Seats?

Just spoke to , i think to be melvin hunter regarding a seat for my AT. After questioning i was not convinced that his explanation of what he did to cure the problem was going to be ok.

SO, i am asking you folks to give me your unbiased opinion of the seat he produces.

I got Melvin Hunter to rebuild my seat and he did a top job but not a cheap one...

If your seat cover is OK I'd try GA Wells first on cost grounds alone.

I found my rebuilt seat a lot more comfortable than the original but with my ongoing lower back problem I don't find any bike seat comfortable for too long.

If you do go for the Melvin Hunter option I wouldn't bother with the gel pads. I got double thickness ones in mine but to be honest I don't think they make that much difference and they do bump up the cost.

What kind of money do the Melvyn Hunter seats cost?

    With G A Wells you are looking at £20 & p+p.

Hi, well I had the usual problems with the original Honda seat so I went for a Corbin, perfect ...or so I thought, until my wife got on behind me and the first time I stopped she slipped down the seat and crushed my nads into the tank.....oooowwwwwwwwch...

Saw the pic of XRV Jims Melvin Hunter seat and had to have one, problem...I had sold my Honda seat...eventually found one cheap on ebay as I only needed the base...got the seller to send it direct to M.H and I sent a cheque & saved postage.
They were very helpful with a very very fast turnround, arrived there monday returned to me on the thursday..(not that I was bothered as I had a second seat) first rate job.

The seat fitted perfect compared to the Corbin which could be a bit fiddly to attach.. I found that the seat kept my wife firmly in her place (wish I could) but I can feel the ridge across the middle of the seat... with someone behind, pushing me fwd its not a problem, but on my own I tend to sit back.....

Which do I prefer? 99% of the time I use the Corbin...its a great feel (recent trip was Brighton to Turin Italy with only fuel stops), however with someone on the back the M. H seat is better..

    Clear as mud eh..

p.s Im sure you can get a good price on the Corbin, but if you want let me know your best quote as a friend works in the bike industry and will do any XRV members a special deal

Here's a second vote for Melvin H. I've had mine for about two months and it seems pretty good. I've done about 3000 miles in that time, but haven't suffered from dumb bum syndrome once during the various journeys.

I have met Melvin and what a strange charachter but genuine His seats is not cheap and a mate had his done on the GS which he did not get on with at all and opted again for the Corbin. Then there is guys who had alot of success with them and would not swop them for the world.

My arse likes Touratech and the only way I found that out was borrowing different seats from mates and trying it out on the bike. The Melvin seat was also not for me but the TT and Corbin worked a treat. I also tried the hawk pad and sheepskin but neither of those helped at all.

At the moment still on the standard Honda seat and only gets me after 200 miles constant riding. Luckilly that does not happen on a weekly basis. Maybe we should have a seat swapping exercise one day

he just quoted me; £202 for a double thickness gel rider only inc p and p. plus £30 for a gel pillion as well.

So thanks for that seems like Corbin or GA wells.
