    Wheels

Got my long-hoped-for spare set of wheels. The plan is to stick the knobblies on and swap wheels for off-road days and trips, keeping the more road-based wheels on for the bulk of my travelling.
Before I start buying tyres etc, what should I check for on these wheels - they seem pretty solid but with rusty spokes and little bit of corrosion, but, then, I'm not looking for works of beauty.
I'll probably fit new bearings anyway. Anything specific I should check before I start investing any money in them?

I'd just have a careful look and feel all around the inside of the rim (as the actress said to the bishop). When I was changing my tyres the other month we found that the inside of the rim had corroded in several places and formed ridges which would eventually cause a puncture. Or maybe had caused a punture already.

It was difficult to tell as the corrosion around the hole for the valve was so bad and the ridge so big and sharp that it had all but cut off the whole valve! A quick whizz over with the trusty Dremel soon ground eveything back down to a smooth surface again though.

I guess just check all your spokes are tight and sound too while you're at it.
