    engine removal trouble

    Hi

today i finally started the project of putting my africa twin engine in my transalp, the removal of cables, carbs and hoses etc. went just fine but when i came to the rear engine bolt (and svinging arm) i got stuck, the nut came of and i can rotate the bolt but i can´t get i out. Any one got a solution for this problem??

    Mike

Most bolts need a tap and a twist to get them out of something that has no lube and a tight fit. Start off with a glamorous assistant with a hammer and a piece of softwood, hammering the end of the bolt you have removed the nut from as you turn the other end. It should start moving quite easily. Once the end disappears into the mount you might have enough on your side to pull as you turn the thing at the same time. If it still needs hammering, I use a socket extension bar which can follow the bolt through.

Well today i told the ba**ard bolt who´s the boss and gave it a few hits with the biggest hammer in the garage, and finally it gave up and crawled out, so if everything works out fine the engine will come out of the frame this evening.

Well after some successful hours in the garage the africa twin engine is finally at place in his new homeframe just one question so far, on the transalp engine there is 3 cables coming out of the case all of them connects to the wire harness but on the africa engine there is only two cables coming out, what is missing ??

    Hi,
Things that come out of the engine are:

    -oil sensor
    -neutral indication
    -ignition pickup

Hope this helps. I can have a look at the electric diagram this evening if you like. Did Haynes help you with this one?

the breaker had "forgot" that he took away the pulse generator when he removed the engine from the donor bike, so now i know why there was only two wires coming out of my AT engine...foookinéll it took me a week of sleepless nights to figure that out
