    RD 07 TRANSMISSION

I RECENTLY ENTER IN TO YOUR SITE AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE
VAST AND VALUABLE INFO I COULD GET OUT OF IT.

IM PROUD OWNER OF AT RD07 JUST BOUGHT.IM NOT FAMILIAR WITH
    ALL TECH.INFO YOU ALLREADY HAVE.

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CLUTCH(I THINK).HARD TO CHANGE FROM 1st TO NEUTRAL WHEN ENGINE IS A T NORMAL TEMP.I HAVE CHANGED THE ENGINE OIL TO HONDA'S BECAUSE OIL PUT IN ENGINE FROM DEALER WAS NOT SUITABLE.I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT SINCE WE HAVE "WET CLUTCH" OIL MUST INCLUDE MOLY AS RECOMENDED BY MANF.

NO RESULTS YET EXEPT OF THE FACT THAT ENGINE SOUNDS BETTER(SMOOTH).

ANYBODY OUT THERE CAN HELP WITH ANY INFO OR SHALL I VISIT LOCAL HONDA REP. FOR A NEW CLUTCH DISCS.

    REGARDS TO ALL
    GEORGE

    Hi George and welcome!

Is switching into neutral the only problem or are all gearchanges difficult? If the gearbox changes gear badly in all gears, it might be the "wrong" oil prevents the clutch from releasing (usually the opposite is true, but there you go). With the correct oil in it might improve over time, and / or after a second oil change, washing away all residues of the "evil" old oil.

It is also possible the wrong oil has caused excessive clutch wear (certain oils make wet clutches slip) which may have widened the clutch cable's free play on the handle, causing poor clutch release. This is simply to adjust, just check the clutch isn't slipping (anymore).

If it is just neutral you have difficulties with, it might (still) be the clutch free play, or even the drive chain's free play: Not sure how/why but I have a strong feeling that this somehow affects changing into neutral as well.
There are quite a few threads on drive chain setting, in general the idea is that when a chain seems to drop off all by itself it is probably just right
Whatever method you'd use, always check for tight spots afterwards while sitting on the bike. ATs are unusually sensitive for tight drive chains; the best is to adjust it more often in relative small steps.

Finally, I also sometimes have slight problems switching into neutral; sometimes it's easier to do it from 2nd rather than 1st gear.

    AT TRANSMISSION

    HI ROBELST,

THANK FOR YOUR REPLY.FIRST ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES IF MY ENGLISH ARE NOT PERFECT.IM TRYING MY BEST.

I REALLY DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH CHANGING OTHER GEARS.TEMP IN CYPRUS TODAY FOR EXAMPLE IS 38CA.SO IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I HAVE TEMP.INDICATOR SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE.THIS IS
WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS.IM ALWAYS TRYING TO SHIFT FROM 2nd BUT SOMETIMES IS DIFFICULT.WHEN I BOUGHT THE BIKE FROM THE DEALER ID DID NOT HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM.I HAVE TAKEN THE BIKE FOR SERVICE TO THE ENGINEER ON DEALERS ACCOUNT AND WITH THE OIL CHANGE(PROBABLY CHEAPEST IN MARKET)THINKS BECAME DIFFICULT.

SO I HAVE VISITED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND BOUGHT 4LTRS OF
EXPENSIVE SYNTHETIC OIL WITH MOLY AS PER RECOMMENDATION FROM MY MECHANIC.DO YOU THING THAT I MUST RIDE THE BIKE FOR SOMETIME BEFORE I CHECK FOR CLUTCH DISKS.

    THANKS .
    GEORGE

    Hi George,
If the clutch has been contaminated give it a bit of time and see if things improve.
It's a bit late now but I'd have used a cheaper oil first (like standard Castrol GP mineral) and changed again shortly after.

BTW: The AT doesn't need expensive oil, just make sure it's motorcycle oil (wet-clutch compliant). I think most people here use 10W40 mineral or half-synth like Castrol GP or GPS, or similar.

Hi George, I am a 'Charlie' As you can see my greek, is crap, and i hope i have said nothing rude to you in my spelling. Welcome to the club, where in Cyprus do you live?. My mum lives in limassol in the 'Neopolis district and my father lives in Protaras. But as you can expect i have cousins everywhere on the island

Going back to your post , i have the same problem when i am at a standstill. I find that if i rev the engine slightly whilst in the clutch is held it is easier to select the gears or neutral. I have changed the oil etc but its the same, usually when the engine is hot. I might change the clutch this winter.
