Thread: AT protection bars (again)

    AT protection bars (again)

Seems to be a fair range of engine/panel protection bars available. So, can anyone make any comparisons? My main concern is where they are mounted, and the force of impact will be transferred to these points.

    Touratech - £133 - http://www.touratech.de/shop_uk/enter.html
    SW Motech - £112 - www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co.uk
    Fehling - £143 - http://www.fehling.de/images/honda/7329.jpg
    Ricky Cross
    Motad

In that order of fixing/quality/price? Comments please!

Motad - not available any more
Touratech - I belive it is the same as SW Motech, wich is the one I would go for. Good reports.

Ricky Cross - some reports of not fitting very well? Mounting points being off I think.

Do a search and thou shall find......

I've got the SW-Motech bars on mine, they're fairly easy to mount and you can do it on your own in about 30 mins.

The instructions are in German, but the pictures are good.

I haven't tested them yet, thank god. Although saying that I'll now probably fall off on my next little trip.

If you want a look let me know as I'm close.

I'm in the market for a new set, someone out on t'Plain mentioned a set that don't need removing to get the bash plate off when you change the oil.

Sounds like a grey tide eel to me! Can someone remind me which ones they are, please?!!

BTW Paul's out of stock at the mo', should have more in a fortnight/three weeks.

    Cheers

Motechs stayed on my bike for 6 years and never came off for any maintenance, they aren't in the way of anything. They are quick and easy to fit as well, 2 u bolts which you slide around the top of the frame and one engine bolt replaced with a longer version is all that's required. And they ripped the car that changed lane on me to shreds too
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I fitted SW-Motechs to mine the day before I threw the bike down the road courtesy of a diesel spill.

They did their job. Bike went down on LHS and they saved all the plastic and the tank. Bar end is scratched as is the rider's footpeg and the passenger's footpeg hanger. The mirror is a bit scratched as well. All I can live with. The bars are slightly bent and scuffed down to the metal.

Well worth the money. Don't hesitate.

Would also say SW-Motech. Fitting is straighforward, seem to protect well (I can't vouch for this, as mine has not been dropped or hit yet), and best of all, don't need removal for getting to any bits (front fairing sides and sumpguard can all be removed with the bars in-place).

I did a article for the Wiki on how to fit them, as the instructions are a bit crap.
