    Faulty Tripmaster?????

Saw this a while ago on eBay.

Just posted into another thread, but sorta thought it may deserve a topic of it's own.

Nothing to do with me, I don't have a Tripmaster, but thought it may help one of you poor souls out there.

anyone know about this fix as mine is doing the switching off and losing its marbles thing - p*ss*ng me right off it is!!

last time i ordered some instructions online it was the workshop manuals for a ford puma - got 3 disks and i'm buggered if i know how to get the damn thing on the computer! - find it's easier to talk to people!

if anyone does know how to fix the tripmaster (in English as i only speak that and Polish to any technical level) i'd be intrigued!

I posted it into your other thread for you.

If you can use a soldering iron, it says you can do it in 30 minutes (check the bottom of the auction).

If it's broke already, you can't possibly make it worse!!

Go on, have a go, and let us know how you get on.

    Cheers

Mine used to cut out regularly, I traced the fault to a very "green" connector behind the screen. Since I cleaned it up it's been fine.

    So far!

I recently 'bought' this instruction from ebay and it is just an instruction (albeit it in english if requested).

With the help of an electronic engineer friend (I am purely mechanical) we were able to find all the new components needed at radio spares and order them (about £10-15 including delivery).

He recomends changing certain electronic components on the PCB inside the tripmaster (I'll try and dig out the part numbers if someone needs them). I have changed the first set he suggests with no improvement to tripmaster function and am currently summing up the courage to change the second set to see if that clears it up. Will let you know if I have success.

This would be quite a tricky repair for someone who is not used to working with electronics and does require a pretty good soldering iron.

In my case I am sure it is not the connector as we have directly connected the trip master up to a 12v supply in the lab and still saw the problem.

When I was parked up in abergavenny a few months ago with the @ a guy came up to me and started to chat about his @`s that he used to own one was a 2000 bought new,he said that after two months the trip kept cutting out,he took it back under warranty and they put a new one on this happened three times in the next 7 months, until he met a mate who told him the problem was not in the unit itself but a bad connection somewhere else onthe bike,so he started to pull apart what he could get to easily and found a (green) dodgy connection, cleaned it up and had 50000 trouble free miles.

I've had a problem in that the tripmaster wasn't counting up, basically not recording the miles.
I traced it back to the sender in the speedometer. I wasn't going to change that so bought Chad's Touratech IMOR300 which does very very nicely thank you.

I don't have a Tripmaster, but my guess is the elusive "Green Connector" will be either a multiblock connector coloured green (as opposed to the others which are either clear, black, brown and red) or more likely to just be a simple bullet connector on a green wire which is an earth. The earths are sometimes common'ed together, so you may get two greens connecting to another one.

Don't have my Haynes manual here, otherwise I could give you more of an idea.

Does the tripmaster light up at night? I suspect that if you are losing the readout, you would also lose the lighting as my guess is the eart is common to both. Just an idea!

    Regards

    Bob
