    All i did was turn on the lights . . . . . .

. . . and the bugger cut out (kind of) then everything went dark the tripmaster went off and then all came back on and bob bob bobbed off down the road!

    is this normal behaviour??

the bike wasn't fully warm when i put it on dips, could this have been the reason?

    was fine after that!

Sounds like a poor connection mate, check the battery terminals first, common cause, then earth points on the bike. To affect the bike running would suggest main power failure from the battery though, all Honda electrics are powered by the battery unlike some from the generator.

Terminals and main fuse would be my first thoughts.

    Hope this helps.
