    12v socket

I know there is a detailed article about fitting a 12v socket, but is there a really good reason not to just connect it to the battery?

I have a datatool battary charger with a direct, permanent battery connector (not connected at the moment), which has a 10amp in line fuse.

I was thinking I could wire up a 12v socket, that would connect to the battery connector, and the whole thing could just sit under the seat.

I'm unlikely to use it in motion anyway - my main thing is so I can plug in a little compressor for inflating tyres.

    Would this work?

I have done it, i just remove the in-line fuse when not needed, for peace of mind.

Yup no problems doing that as far as I'm aware...I did that on my @, had the socket up next to the idiot lights then could easily charge my phone/camera/radios/whatever whilst on the move and while they were in my tankbag. Never bothered to remove the fuse....never saw the need.

I had a little compressor too incase the worst ever happened - which it never did. Just as well really 'cos in spite of it's advertised 240 psi or whatever, it could just about blow up someones airbed when I loaned it to them!

I've connected mine straight to the battery and never bother to disconnect it or remove the fuse. No problems so far. I don't use it on the move though.

Thanks - as I thought really. I guess the main danger is running the battery flat by having something plugged in without the engine on.

I used to have a BMW where the socket was not connected to the ignition circuit, so was always on. never had any problems with that.
