Evening from a new boy....and a question on jack up kits...

    Hello All

Well, I'm picking it up on Tuesday (having placed the deposit 8 weeks ago, only having seen the tail end of it and then being far too busy to go get it.....)

And I'm looking forward to it. Big styleee.

Howver, FatBloke has ruined it for me. I won't be happy until my newly acquired AT is taller than a giraffe on stilts.

So I wondered if anyone has used one of the Afrika Queens lift kits. I'm mega interested, but £240 notes seems a bit steep. And I've got the mechanical aptitude of an ostrich that's just swallowed a bottle of laxative...(I run around a lot, spread **** everywhere and then bury my head in the sand).

So how user friendly are the kits? I can't make bits myself, so does anyone know of an alternative or should I bite the bullet, buy it and then pay someone to fit it?

    Advice gratefully received.

And then I'm off to Shepshed to see those nice seat type people.

    Have fun....

    N

The jackup kit is pretty straight forward to fit - the suspension linkage between the shock , swing arm and frame is a pivot block with three bolts and a pivoting link. The trick when dismantling it is get the bike up on a centre stand and have and extra jack available to raise the block back in to position with the new link arm for reassembly.

The other thing to watch for on raising the bike is that the chain slider blocks potentially can wear quicker as the chain is no longer in the "ideal" range that the slider was designed to cope with.

Making a linkage at home is probably too difficult unless you have access to a milling machine.

    Good luck!

Search Fatblokes old posts and send him a PM - he did it by redrilling the suspension link arms.
