I guess we're talking about the rear tyre? Some say you can do it with a big G clamp...never managed it myself

Lube, and lots of it as with all the rubber products. I read someplace that swarfwega (is that how it is spelled) with water would make a nice, slowly drying paste. Then just careful rythmic in and out movement with your lever and the satisfaction is guaranteed

i can also report that clamping in the jaws of a work-bench will not work as the tourance rear will not fit in it!

    damn!

if you've got another bike (or a friend has one) you can use the side stand. lay the wheel on the ground, place the end on the side stand on the tyre next to the rim and let the weight of the bike do the work.

thanks Rikat - all by myself here!

    have tried

    1) jumping on it
    2) hitting it with a stick
    3) getting my girlfriend to hit it with a stick
    4) asking it nicely
    5) sending it to the naughty step
    6) swearing at it
    7) clamping it in a workbench
offering it a cup of tea (seriously!)
    9) ringing the RAC (bugger all use they were!)
    10) putting it back in the garage for the weekend when i can take it to get it fixed!

It's just not worth the aggro, a guy in Hanley took both of mine off, fitted new tubes, new tyres, balanced them and handed them back in 20 minutes
Leave the Manc scallys to defend themselves and nip round to the nearest bike tyre shop in the morning

Mate if you don't have a main stand where you can gently tilt the bike over to let the sidestand do the job you are basically fukced. You need a bead breaker or something like a G-clamp to get the ******* rear wheel off. Best bet this point at night is take it to the nearest wheel changing place, hand over a tenner or whatever they charge and save yourself a heart attack.
