Original Exhaust

Gooday!

Short of buying an aftermarket can is there anyway of modifying the original RD07A end can both for sound quality and performance? If so, does it make for a worthwhile job?

Once the piggy bank is full I think I may go for a Remus Grand prix or Rev', but until then.... Inside exhausts is a foreign world to me having never rampered with one, so any advice appreciated in Leymans Terms

I've just serviced the bike and put Irridium IX plugs in. I feel the bike runs a little smoother for it. Also fitted K&N filter which seems to have improved a touch.

I read somewhere in the forums that Carport (i think it was) drilled 2 x 40mm holes into the airbox ???? Did i read that right? Actually take the filter out and drill 2 holes ? I presume I'm getting the right idea, and from what I remember that helped the bike breath alot better. Would be chuffed if someone could confirm that for me. I might give it a go.

Still bloody raining

Yes I did, one each side of the airbox above the flter line. A definite improvement at fuller throttle positions.

As the bike runs rich on fuel as standard, and you have a standard can fitted you may get away with this without re-jetting. Best to have a dyno run to be sure. If you're not happy, a bit of gaffa tape will cover one or both of the holes back up.

My final settings were 2x40mm holes, K&N, Remus revolution with baffle removed, dynojet kit with the smaller jets supplied, fitted.

Nice one Carport. Thanks mate ... I may well give it a whirl and see if it make a difference or not. I might look into the Dynojet kit aswell while i'm off work.

Totally chuffed I finally got myself an AT and wish I'd done it sooner. It could do with a few more horses, but having gone from a Hayabusa to a Buell to this it's not surprising I'm noticing the difference! In fact, got off road yesterday for the 1st time ever and got covered mud & **** but didn't come off. I could definitely do with practise, but loved the go-anywhere fun-factor of this machine

Well I kept watch on E bay and bid for a Remus Titanium ( oval) and won it for £100.01 ( apparently won by a penny!)
As new from Touratech they are £391.......gulp.....
Without any other modification the new pipe got rid of the 'flat spot' my bike had at 60mph. Its now super smooth and has 'presence' on the road but is not 'howling' loud

Save a a ton of weight too over the standard pipe

You see plenty going for sale and selling at £50 to £70 ( normally remus/ lazer/micron alloy round ones ( inc the important link pipe) Vanc & Hines go for silly money.

worth a look on e bay

Original XRV pipes fetch £30 to £60 on the e bay....the maths show you the way

The law for MOT stations has now changed and as long as the silencer does not say on it 'NOT FOR ROAD USE' and its not loud, and the MOT man is a very very nice man.
You can pass the MOT with the after market silencer fitted.
Mine did and has a very nice mid range tone to boot.

I retained my original ( just incase)

Good luck

Magwa

Hey Pooh, just noticed your location. I was in Felixstowe over the Bank Holiday weekend - my wife's folks (near Bath Road) and brother (the newish estate near the Docks) live there. The missus and kids are staying there the week so I caught the 05:43 train into London this morning

Didn't see an AT while I was there though ...

Tony

Hey Tony,

Sunny old Felixstowe eh? I have freinds on Bath Rd.

You wouldn't have seen me 'cos I persuaded the wife to hop on the back of the bike and we headed up to Croma completely loaded up with camping gear and stayed overnight there.

The wife isn't all that adventurous so I brought along alot of home comforts packed in the panniers etc... but none of that made any difference to the fact it RAINED non-stop! Not sure she'll come with me again in a hurry

Infact, to top it off, I bought a small backpackers tent to try out as it only weighed 2.5kg and packed really small, but of course when erected .. it WAS really small (the tent!). Quite an embarrassment really next to the flash 10 man tents pitched around us. This one was barely big enough for me on my own. We did have a laugh though.

Come say hi next time your'e in town.
