    AT TYRE PRESSURE

    Hi folks,

Does anybody know what is the best tyre pressure for bridgestone tws.
Road use without passenger recomended pressure is 29Psi front 29Psi
rear.I have no idea if trailwings need more pressure for best results.

I will change tws for Metzeler tourance for better road grip and i want to make sure that i use the correct pressure before i deside.

I use Metzler Tourace tyres and run 32 psi (front) 38 psi rear (solo) and 42psi (rear) with pillion.
As I alone wiegh 15stone naked and about 17 stone with all my leathers/ helmets/ boots etc But I am 6'02" tall !
The higher pressures give the best handling/ wear for me.

The Metzler tyres are the best all round tyre I have ever used.
I don't use any others now.

You will not regret the change.

They are good in the dry, good in the wet and most importantly good in the damp where grip is the poorest.(There is a difference, honest, official, no blag!)

The Honda book says 29 psi front and 36psi rear ( bit soft and squigy handling for me) on standard OE tyres

    Good luck

Got to agree with Magwa, Tourance is a cracking tyre for year round biking.
I'm slightly lighter and run 30 front 36 rear, but no lower or it weaves all over the place.

I thought the RD07 handbook says 29psi front and rear - though it's 36psi rear if you have a pillion.

The recommended Tourance pressures are 29 front, 36 rear. Non-OE tyres don't always use the same pressures.

29/36 seems to work for me, but then I'm 2 stone or so lighter than you, so your slightly higher pressures probably make sense. I was once told how to set up tyre pressure correctly - you check the pressure cold, ride far enough to get them properly warm, and check them again; the pressure should rise by a certain amount (about 6psi AFAIR, but I'm not sure), if it has risen by less than that your cold pressure at the start was too high, and if if it rose by more, your cold pressure was too low. There'll be someone along in a minute who can put me right on this I'm sure!

I don't worry excessively, as I always reckoned grip had less to do with tyres than whether or not there was a pig pile of gravel/cow****/wet leaves on the next apex

I've always run bikes and cars around 30-32psi doesn't seem to affect it much around this although I have noticed the more modern tyres are better with slightly more pressure than slightly less, I would tend to go with what the tyre manufacturer reckons, most of them give a recommendation on their websites.
Icy, I've not heard of this test before, but it does sound right, I would be interested in trying this out, any chance you could dig out the info?

I think this may refer to racing pressures as the tyres will run at a much higher temperature. Racing a CBR600 and Firestorm we would check the pressure after practice on the day and aim for an 6 to 8p.s.i. difference depending on tyre temp. If we maintained this pressure difference we were not for off.
A road tyre will never get to the temperature as a track tyre no matter how good a rider on the road thinks they are pushing it.
The tyre temp on the road will vary considerably on a journey and checking pressure when hot is not a good idea.

Yea when you start going racing ( which we AT riders don't of course) the pressures are varying to type of conditions/ track/ tyre type/ manufacturer....it all gets a bit 'ANAL'

I run 4psi front and 6psi rear on my Bultaco ( 1973) trials bike on trials.....you see its all a matter of feel and availible grip from trials tyres. but the AT is only used on the road.

    Good Luck
