    The rear carrier

Is the rear carrier as originally supplied made from plastic.?Just curious as I haven't had a chanch to examine another AT.I was turning the bike around recently the rail didn't seem to be the most robust.

Yes, it's all genuine plastic, including the pillion hand-grips
    Pretty tough though.

If you mean the silver grab handles, they are plastic and I've lifted the rear end of my bike very slightly off the ground with one to drag it round in a tight space (doesn't do your back any good that), they are very strong indeed.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Are there any replacements for the rack? I think it's probably the most useless part of the bike. I notice that markincyberpsace seems to have a tubular rack of some sort.

I seem to remember slimie had something more useful made.

It is more than strong enough though. A couple of years back a lorry reversed into my bike, it fell on its left side, and was dragged backwards sliding on the grip for over 10 metres of rough tarmac. The grip lost a millimetre or so of material but nothing broke. I bet you can strap a whale on the carrier without any problem, if it was just a bit wider.

    I find it real usefull.
When I bought the bike new the deal included a Honda top box and u-lock, the lock fits into the rack. The top box came with a slightly different rack to standard (looks the same as original) and the box just clicks on like Givi boxes. I wouldn`t be without mine.

what you might find is that they do tend to crack in the middle, between both handles. I have added a piece of metal to mine to strengthen it. It has cracked for both Phoenix and Eugen1 i think.

It's fine as a grab handle (unless the pannier frames are on) but it's pretty useless for hooking bungies on.

I think Reynos plate is great, much MUCH easier to attach hooks and bungees and stuff to. Recommended!
