    Hmmm...removing a shaft drive?? NTV 650 --> RD03

OK... I'm seeing alot of 650s from the Honda NTV on Ebay. The NTV is suppose to have the same engine as a RD03. I finally saw a picture that makes me think that the shaft drive is just a bolt on unit, can anyone confirm this?
Basically what I'm asking is: Can I remove the shaft drive without major modifications to install the engine into my @?

I'm pretty sure the swinging arm length/suspension travel distances are going to be very different between the two bikes. I can't see that *not* being a problem, but then again, I've never tried so...

if it's just the engine you want to use then i can't see it being that much of a problem

but i have no idea what the difference will be where the shaft drive attaches to the engine - if that can be converted and the engine is the same then surely it will go?!

unless the mountings are different - but you can always get mountings fabricated!

anyone with any real technical knowledge got any ideas?

There`s going to have to be a ninety degree change in direction of drive for the shaft,so there will most likely be an extra shaft in the gearbox... or if you`re lucky, maybe a sleeved adapter in the NTV box.

If you`re wanting a shaft drive Honda trailie, then apart from buying an XLV ( ) I think a whole NTV engine and driveline swap would be better than than trying to graft an NTV final drive to a chain drive bike.

If you want a super trick single sided back end on a chain driven AT or TA then you could use the one from the Honda BROS whic looks like an NTV but is chain driven.

I appear to have made the same mishtake, durrr.

    Must pay more attention.....

So,to correct my earlier post....I`m sure it wouldn`t be much of a job to fit the engine from a BROS to your bike.

Oh my gawd...am I going to die a thousand deaths when it`s pointed out that the BROS was only ever a 400 and never a 600/650 ??
    ( I`m sure there`s a bigger one,though)

Obviously this depends on what the output shaft looks like, I can imagine it being the same with a bevel gear sleeved over the shaft instead of a sprocket.
Can you get hold of a parts list for the NTV and compare the output shaft with the RD03 one in the Tech Data above? maybe this site could help you trace the part number

If not you may need to go see one and take your socket set to check it out.

I think the shaft to chain conversion is a no-go:

This from a NTV 650, the output shaft (8 ) is apparently only sold as a set...

I haven't seen a Bros engine on EBay for a while. Like I say, I am limited for internet accessibility for the next little while, so if you see one let me know.
