    my new africa twin

    Hi all,just joined the site as ive just bought a AF,2001 on a Y plate,i took her out for her first long ride out today....and loved it...however after 90 miles or so i stopped to refresh myself,and when i tried to start her up again the battery was dead...ccan anyone tell me if you ride with the lights all the time will it drain the battery...i bumped her and rode mhome woth out the lights on and she starts fine now...should i take her back to garage ...but other than that she,s a dream to ride...many thanks Gary....also ive got a w reg bmw f650..and a T plate sv650sx for sale if anyone is interested [/b]

    Shoudn't be an issue but my battery would give up if it didn't start within a few turnovers. Changed the battery and it made a huge difference. If you bought it from a dealer take it back and get them to check the battery and replace it if necessary.

    I ride with my lights on dip all the time get them to do a load test too you never know.

    Yep, as above, get them to (load) check the battery and connections, and it may also be wort checking the master fuse and it's connections are clean. (I have an '92 RD04, and if the RD07 is the same it will be part of the starter solenoid)

    welcome to the site mate

    take it back to the garage get them to test the batterie and the alternator for charge it sounds like the batterie could be near the end of its use. and time for a new one that they should put on for you

    Yep sounds like a shagged battery to me.... easily sorted anyway.
    I rode all the time with the lights on, and shed loads of extras. The original battery gave up after about 4 years on mine.

    duff battery

    Many thanks for the advice...yep the battery was on its last legs..new one fitted now..had a150 mile trip out today and its fine...thanks and see all out on the roads ...stay safe..
