Front brake no longer lights up the brake light...
What does the switch mechanism comprise of? Is it a sealed unit or might it be fixable?

Having had just about every part of the bike in bits recently - the switch is a sealed unit - you could probably butcher it open with a stanley knife but watch out for flying bits of brass contacts and springs. Dismount the switch and give it a good squirt with proper contact cleaner spray( not WD40 ) and work the plunger a few times. As Chad says it is much more likely to be the connections rather than the switch as the blade terminals are really small and it is easy to think you have pushed the connectors on when the contact has gone up the inside of the rubber boot not on to the blade.
As Pugh above, make sure all the contacts are properly made, especially if it's been apart recently, then work and lube any sliding bits, plungers etc, sometimes these are just gummed up.
You didn't give details of your "accident" if it's possible that the wires got tugged they may have streched and broken inside, do a continuity test on each wire.
It is a sealed unit as said but I have opened up mine with a Stanley knife and cleaned it out. Quite a lot of build up on the contact. May have been a break in the original seal. Pushed it back together and re-sealed it with mastic and have had no trouble since.
Careful how you open it though. There are some small springy pieces in there! I think a new one is around £8.
