The valves are simple! Remove the seat, side panels and tank, this lets you in to the top of the engine to get at the plugs for the service, while there you simply open up the valve covers and check the clearances with feeler guages. If they need adjusting you simply slacken the lock nut with a ring spanner and adjust with a plain screw driver, I can't remember the clearances off the top of my head but I could dig out the manual if neccessary?
At 12,000 I'd guess they won't need anything, just a check in case, I know none of the @T's I've done have eveer needed any adjustment until a lot higher milage.
Hope this helps.

still need gap size
brianmcc, according to the Haynes book of knowledge, Intake are 0.13 - 0.17mm and Exhaust are 0.18 - 0.22 mm.
Hope this helps.
I use a 0.15mm gauge for the inlet and a 0.2mm gauge for the exhaust. Don't forget to take the measurements when the engine is at top dead centre, with the valves on both inlet and outlet of the cylinder you are working on, able to be moved a little with your fingers. If this isn't possible, turn the engine 360 degrees until it's top dead centre again. The 'F' and 'R' marks you can see through the crankcase cover are TDC for front or rear cylinder.Originally Posted by shel750

I undo the RH radiator, just the bolts not the hoses and move it as far away as the hoses let me. If not the front cap is even more of a pain to get to.

Best tool to remove the front valve cap with is the original equipment toolkit, rear wheel nut spanner. I learnt that in Malaya!!!! :POriginally Posted by Uwe
