    Clutch cable question

Question for the high mileage AT owners (Maverick??). How long is the clutch cable going to last me? I strip and grease the levers and lube the cable normally once a year. Being a bit sad I normally replace high wear items before they let me down.

    clutch cable

Probably quite a hard question to answer barftone as not everyone even uses the clutch upshifting, and some will slip it continuously offroad.

The main thing to watch for is the angle that the cable comes out of the outer cable at the bottom. If the bracket is out of line, it forces the inner cable to rub on the outer and eventually wear prematurely. Just look at the bottom of the cable while you pull the clutch lever in a couple of times and you'll soon see if it looks straight. If it's not in line, just 'help' it back into position with a moveable spanner.

    Mine seized at 112,000 km.

Get a honda one if you're planning on keeping the bike for ages.
