    XRV 750 INSTRUMENT BULBS

Hi everyone i have checked the Honda Manual and it says 4 x 1.7 watts , 3 bulbs for the Speedo and Tacho and 1 bulb for the trip meter . The Haynes Manual says 3 x 1.7 watts for Speedo / Tacho and 1 x 2 watts for the trip meter . I put brighter bulbs in the Speedo/Tacho and was going to change the Tripmeter bulb BUT it is a long thin bulb .HAS anyone changed this bulb for a brighter one AND was it any better . fw750x

    Hi Fw

I changed the trip bulb in my AT. Got it from T7 Honda in Ballymena. The guy in parts section (Dermot) is super.

The bulb comes with a blue plastic cover - you "may" be able to specify a clear cover, or make one, which may prove brighter.

Cannot find any mention of the trip bulb type in the Haynes manual, but a call to Dermot in T7 might be wothwhile.

I replaced my Tripmeter bulb with a clear 1.7W one. Could not find one with a blue cover. But the clear one is bright enough. Would not want it any brighter!

But with a blue cover it is already less bright of course.

    Hi fw750x

Went to Supercross tonight! A bit disappointing - thankfully I got free tickets at 7 o'clock tonight or would have been really miffed at paying £90 for the three of us!

The kids on the 65cc machines were brilliant - really dirty players, blocking eachother by any means they could. Was good to see it for the first time, but left before the end.

Think I'll give the bike shows a miss and save up for bike bits instead.

Changing the subject slightly, has anyone tried brighter bulbs in the headlights?

    In theory,
the headlight fuse is 20A on a 12v battery = 240W total covering both headlights.
    Headlights currently fitted are 55W each x 2 = 110W

Has anyone tried 100W bulbs or similar for extra illumination?
Anyone tried it and melted any wiring looms?
Killed any batteries? Blown any fuses?

I know they are technically illegal but I'm not too worried about that , and its not like it'll get picked up at the MOT. Besides. the headlights on all my bikes I think are a little 'high', yet they still keep passing the MOTs.......

    LED conversion

I have just changed all mine with Ultra bright BLUE LEDs, I have found that the best type to use are the multi LED bright type. I have also changed the trip meter lamp for a single ultra bright LED. In order to fit this you will have to remove the metal bulb connections in the rubber holder for the trip meter with long nose pliers. After this you can thread the LED wired through the two wire holes and solder and shrink sleave them to the bike harness wires. I found I had to bend the LED slightly to the trip meter screed in order to get the display lit correctly and pull and push the wires to get the LED on the correct position. After you have this, mark the wires going through the rubber holder with sticky tape then remove the rubber holder and fill it inside with Aroldite. This will set the LED firmly into the correct position for good.

The mini LED used for the trip meter was got from Halfords and came in a pack of 4 with wires already soldered on. In addition the LED runs on 12v as it is meant for cars.

The result is fantastic, the whole dash lites up like the new AUDI or VW cars, a deep and very smart BLUE.

I have tried to take a few pictures but my camera doesn't like LEDs for some reason (sorry)

Hi Guys i got a Bulb for the Trip Meter tonight on the way home from work. It is a clear bulb " the Original bulb has a blue cover" as spotted by Jochen , Anyway i removed the Screen as you look at the bike from the front it is on the Top left hand side on the Trip Meter and replaced it with a Halfords Exterior/interior bulb 12v 2.3 watt . Part Number on the Packet top right hand corner on a white square 284. This Bulb now lights up the whole Trip Meter , Price £ 1.59 well worth changing . I also changed the Speedo/Rev counter Bulbs to Halfords again Lazer Blue sidelight Bulbs 12v 2.3 watt Part Number 501LB " these have a slight blue apperence " I think the bulbs which i changed last year were the same 12v 2.3 watt But were clear bulbs ,The only difference i could see was the RED Part on the Dials seemed to be Brighter £ 3.89 for a pack of two and you will need 4 bulbs . The clear bulbs for the Speedo/Rev counter are about HALF the price of the LAZER BLUE . FW750X
