    Exhausts

    Hi,

Anybody out there using a Quill exhaust?
Not after any noise increase, just something a little lighter with perhaps a little better/easier air flow. Seen their site and the price doesn't look too bad and neither does the look (but £200 on a whim is a lot of anybodies money!)

Any feed back most welcome, or other recommendations.

FWIW, I have a Quill on the TT600R I just acquired, and it's...loud. Evidently it got through the MoT, but I just purchased an OEM can to replace it. It sounds good in small doses, but personally I find it quite wearing when riding the bike.

If you don't want more noise the OE can is difficult to beat power & torque wise (forget what some manufacturers promise). Even some louder systems may disappoint, esp if you don't adjust the carburation correctly, although more noise can give an impression of more speed

Almost all alternatives pipes are lighter, although personally I wonder if a couple of kilogrammes is such a big deal on a 225 kg bike. Well, unless it's part of a comprehensive diet-project of your bike. The OE pipe tends to rust so it gets lighter over time anyway

I have a road-legal BSM fitted after my OE pipe really got into a poor state; it's well made, a lot lighter but can't say I ever noticed that. What I do notice is a slight dip around 4500 rpm.

I bought my bike with a pipe on it (Air Age - locally manufactured). It had a nice sound and I could feel the performance increase in the lower ranges, but the noise became bothersome, and the power increase doesn't make it worth it IMHO. Back on the standard exhaust now - quiet and no probs on performance.

Thanks guys, I think I'll probably stick with the original. The idea of adding the can looked and felt right but the general response I get from others as well, is that its the noise that makes it feel livelier, so, I'll keep the £200 cash and go for the K & N and better plugs.
(Perhaps keep my own weight down!)
