    Headlights

I've sourced a pair of UK headlights from a breaker (I have a French bike), who wants £70. Sounds semi-reasonable, and it's local. Any idea what they cost new?

about that each. Seriously, buy yourself some protectors once you've fitted them.

I paid £45 new through a guy in the trade. £55 otherwise.

    Buy them.

So I guess you mean £45/£55 each? I think I'll go look, and I'll buy them if they're clean. They also have an MPH speedo for £40.

    lights and speedo

Grab them both quick Mark. Definitely worth it as they're rarer than hen's teeth.

It could be possible to pick them up cheaper, it always is, especially after you've bought them. Not many Africa's get broken anyhow.

    Not intentionally anyway

Check if the lenses are alright. I wonder how much they would be using David Silver's own import (6 weeks procedure); I remember saving 30% on fairing panels, and it's all brand new.

I just bought a complete-, good-as-new UK type double-hadlight unit including H1/H3 bulbs for my TDM (which has a European lens) for the princely sum of £30 from a breaker, and that's got one of those fancy modern convex lenses in it (not just a shiny cone with a bit of glass, like on the AT).

It seems it's not only complete Africa Twin bikes but also loose parts are bizarly overpriced

I paid £60 for a pair of S/H headlights with the mounting frame and all the screws. New they are around £55 each. The speedo is a bargain at £40 - they are something like £200 new - I refused to buy one for my imported German AT so now I am very good at converting KmH to MPH.

    Thanks, the consensus seems positive.

Worked out even cheaper in the end. Shortly after posting all this I had a PM from wobblemonster, who lives in France and has a UK bike! Suffice to say, (very) early this morning, passing Luton on his way to Yorkshire, he stopped off outside my house and we just swapped headlights and speedos. How cool is that?!
