    The latest on my @...

Right first off, I'm thinking 'Dessie' as a name? Thoughts?...

Yesterday I fitted Oxford heated grips - would have been the day before but the set I got from Halfrauds had bits missing and the wires on the control unit had been cut and soldered!

I started off by popping the fuse box out and soldering a wire onto the back of the ignition fuse wires (fuse 3). This then went to a 30A (overkill, but I had it lying around from a previous job on the discovery) relay giving me an ignition controlled power source once I had a fuse installed in the spare holder in the box. There were a couple of holes drille din the side of the 'tool-bin' already so I used one to mount the relay - it sits quite tidily above the fuse box out of harms way. The main wiring loom from the relay then went up to the dash and the only place I could get the controller to fit was between the bar clamps on the top yoke - it sits quite nicely under the bar bag I have fitted for my spare goggle lenses, keys, phone etc so looks quite good.

Then it was a simple job of fitting the grips and off for a test-ride......

I had to turn the bl00dy things off! They are well hot and will my trip back to work on January infinitely more bearable! excellent bit of kit - and I even got a free beanie hat to keep my heed warm while I fitted them - bargin....

Only thing is the amount of cable the grips come with - how wide do they think folks bars are?....

Next job is an oil change and then a centre-stand as the play in the head bearings was done the other day - got bored and so did it in a few spare minutes.....

My heated grips were put on by the dealer I bought Horace from. Left def cooler (or less HOT!) than the right and they fitted the left grip with lots of grease that becomes slippery as it warms... and can then be easily pulled off. Don't ya just love them dealers?

Having said all that, I do shifts and so I'm either on the road in early morn or the late at night some of the time and then they are a Gift From Heaven!

And we haven't really had any cold days over the last three years down in the softy south, so I must be real nesh
    Ciao

Must be something in that - the left on mine is cooler as well....

Mine just slid on without the need for anything once the bars had been cleaned with loc-tite 'Super-clean'. I didnt use the super-glue supplied either as I'm not entirely happy with the postition of the things just yet and may wnat to move stuff about a bit here and there.....

Dessie? yeah why not, any particular reason, or does it ride like an old racehorse?

Heated grips, you wimp! Ok well yes if you're going to be stupid and ride all weathers then they've got to be worth fitting

Ha, old race horse be buggered! Well actually now that I think about it.....

Nah, not really, its just harking back to the model's beginnings in a misty eyed nostalgic sort of way, and I thought it sounded kinda cool?...

As for the grips, having ridden to and from Catterick to Glasgow in the worst weather we've had this year has pointed out to me the need to keep my mitts warm - bigger hand guards like thems offa Beemer may do the trick, but the Oxfords were just hangning on a hook in Halfrauds shouting 'Buy Me!, Buy Me now!', so I did......

And as for being stupid, yeah guilty!
