Right first off, I'm thinking 'Dessie' as a name? Thoughts?...
Yesterday I fitted Oxford heated grips - would have been the day before but the set I got from Halfrauds had bits missing and the wires on the control unit had been cut and soldered!
I started off by popping the fuse box out and soldering a wire onto the back of the ignition fuse wires (fuse 3). This then went to a 30A (overkill, but I had it lying around from a previous job on the discovery) relay giving me an ignition controlled power source once I had a fuse installed in the spare holder in the box. There were a couple of holes drille din the side of the 'tool-bin' already so I used one to mount the relay - it sits quite tidily above the fuse box out of harms way. The main wiring loom from the relay then went up to the dash and the only place I could get the controller to fit was between the bar clamps on the top yoke - it sits quite nicely under the bar bag I have fitted for my spare goggle lenses, keys, phone etc so looks quite good.
Then it was a simple job of fitting the grips and off for a test-ride......
I had to turn the bl00dy things off! They are well hot and will my trip back to work on January infinitely more bearable! excellent bit of kit - and I even got a free beanie hat to keep my heed warm while I fitted them - bargin....
Only thing is the amount of cable the grips come with - how wide do they think folks bars are?....
Next job is an oil change and then a centre-stand as the play in the head bearings was done the other day - got bored and so did it in a few spare minutes.....
