    battery probs

Hi guys need a bit of advice,my bike is a 1992 rdo4 and the battery is about 8 months old(a cheap one).twice recently i have found the battery to flat to start the bike and today it let me down again.while waiting for the wife to bring my booster pack i had a poke around,i found no loose connections but i noticed when i pressed the starter button the cell near the positive post was bubbling like crazy does this mean its donald ducked?any way got it started and when i got home (12 miles) there was plenty of life in the battery and my multimeter said there was plenty of charge from the alternator. what do you think?

ps plenty off fluid in the battery.

Hmmm. remember a problem like this on my very old CBX550. The problem was that I had a bare wire rubbing against the tank.
Taped it up, set the battery on trickle charge for 2 days and all was well..

    Battery Problem

I had the same problem after I bought my '98 @.

I did all the things you are supposed to do and it still kept not starting in the cold, etc. I got fed up of bump starting so I could get home after work so i went to Tippetts Surbiton to get it optimated.

But standing there I decided that what was the point?

    It was a crap battery.

So i bought a new Honda batttery and..... well, it was like getting a brand new bike!

It runs smoother, and it certainly feeling better.

My advice: For the sake of around £40, get a new battery!

Why muck around and have the worry of knowing whether it's going to start? Get the best battery available avoid the cheap ones. IMHO, of course.

If just one cell of the battery is bubbling then it sounds like there is something wrong, I would go with the above and get a new battery, it's just not worth the hassle, when you get your new battery put it on an optimate and check it regularly, it's usually neglect thet stuffs them up.

BTW I bought a Varta battery off T'internet and it's been fine, not worth paying Mr Honda's 10% for pretty much the same thing, but again don't go for the real cheapo's stick with a good brand.

When you recconnect file the battery posts and the wire ends lightly till they're shiny and check the wires for any breaks and a good earth onto the frame, most intermittant battery problems are due to a bad earth/ connection.
