Heated Grips (yes, again)

I got some GTMOTO (Halfords) grips, and I removed the existing throttle grip. The heated grip fits loosely on the throttle, rather than tightly (or even 'snugly'), which is what I expected (the instructions caution that I might need the silicone glue supplied as a lubricant to get the thing on). I'm pretty sure if I just used the glue it wouldn't stay put, so I guess I will need to pack it out with tape of some kind.

I know someone else here has had this issue, but I don't know the long-term outcome of packing the grip with, say, masking tape.

Any ideas / experiences? I did manage to get the existing throttle grip off without damage, so I can always revert.

How about packing it out with heat shrink or self amalgamating tape or a combination of both.
