    HID conversion for the @

Well after a lot of problems I have finally got it done, HID ed my @,
    http://www.xrv.org.uk/phpBB2/gallery...2_itemId=13152
This conversion was one of the most problematic I have done, everything was difficult, Had to make some very fancy brackets to hang the ballasts on using a water jet machine, then had to mount the latching relay under the rear right side panel so had to make a new wiring harness for the lights, then had to modify the anti glare shields as they didn't work correctly.
    http://www.xrv.org.uk/phpBB2/gallery...2_itemId=13150
    anyway, job now done
    http://www.xrv.org.uk/phpBB2/gallery...2_itemId=13154
I have now tested these lights on some of the very dark roads up here in Cumbria and all I can say is WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOW man these are bright.

Anyway, I have now found out the best way to fit HID's to the @ so if anyone is thinking of doing this change then ask and I will hopefully save you a lot of experiment time

Looks really cool , have contemplated this myself but not yet taken the plunge, am tempted to do it on my GSXR first tho......

Anyway, who did you get the kit from?
Which one is it? I'd presume its a H4 kit but what is the colour? 6000k?

I was looking at http://www.xenonshop.co.uk/index.php?cat=H4_HID_KIT (£180 for the kit) however when you go to the contacts page they don't display the address which I'm usually a little wary of.

    Good job!
Any chance that you can post some more close up pics of where the ballasts are mounted?
I ve been meaning to fit mine as well but until now I could only find place for one ballast.

to mount the ballasts you cut out two pieces of aluminium about 3mm thick to the same size as the ballasts (about 3'' x 3.5''), you then remove both the dip and full beam relays from their mounts on the headlight sub frames, then drill a 6mm whole through each of the sub frame relay mounts (the small tung bits). The alloy ballast plates you have made then bolt to these wholes (countersinking the alloy plates to keep any screw heads flush with the plate. Now cut two strips of 1mm thick alloy about 1cm wide and 10cm long, bend this into an open 'Z' shape and fit it to the spare bolt hole in the headlight frame (at the front just below the front lamp frame bolt holes) the other end is bolted to the outer edge of the ballast plate you have just made. The idea is to brace the ballast plate and reduce the load on the light weight relay tags you have drilled.

I also went the extra mile and machined out the excess metal from the ballast mounting plate, This makes the whole job look better. I then painted the brackets black. The ballasts are then strapped to the plates with cable ties as in the picture. I found that the best wiring route was to use the right ballast for the left lamp and the left ballast for the right lamp.

I will try and take more pictures, however, to get to the ballast bracket I will have to strip the front cowl off again.

I will try and write a method up with sketches later this week and add it as an attachment.

Sorry I forgot, the lamps I used were 6000K and I would say they are too blue for my liking, go for 4300K

The kit came from a guy in London, I will post up a link later, Kits were £115 + £15PP which I thought was good value, the service from the supplier was first class.

    Hi,
Looks good, I fitted the ballasts to the inside of each fairing partially using the brackets for my spots, I managed to squeeze the relay (to operate the solenoids for the hi & lo) between the headlights.
Why did you have to modify the shields ? I find the beam is both wider and longer than the Halogens and has a straight cut off.
I also of 6000k which is apparently known as brilliant white, I get seriously blinded by the reflection from new road signs
On the whole the system is excellent, I fancy fitting a kit to my VFR.
    Cheers
    Andy

Did you use a relay to get power straight from the battery?
