Hi Fletch,
Go for an OEM Yuasa - you might have been unlucky, but mines been going for six years and 86,000 miles. This is probably extreme, but they last well normally. I've had cheapo batteries dead in a few months. The Yuasa is around £70, but for me it's worth it.

YUASA
Yup, mine's been struggling a bit too these last few days, and it's only about 6 months old![]()
Soon as a nice property with a garage and in my price range comes up...I'm off! Probably moving all of about 300 yards!
yup yuasa![]()

Personally, I have a cheapo, and it's been great, and my bike sits outside all the time. Still starts strong first time, and it's atleast 18 months old.
On my other bikes, I have had bad expensive experiences of the alarms dragging the sealed batteries so low that even an Optimate couldn't receover them, so they have expensive batteries that are kept on trickle charge always.
Anyway, I have one warning about cheap batteries, and buying over the web.
I bought a cheapo before, and it wasn't supplied with the acid to fill it, because they claimed the acid couldn't be sent through the post as it was a dangerous substance. So after having spent £25, I had to find an obliging bike shop to fill the bloody thing with acid which cost another £5. So, no money saved, more inconvenience than just going to the shop.
Cheers
Bob

My battery ( (three yrs old) died yesterday.
What a bugger of a job to disconnect the scottoiler ( in the void under the seat), remove the battery skin knuckles......
.
As for a replacement
I went to a local bike shop ( Sherwoods In Hall Green, Bham)
Spoke to Charlie ( manager) and purchased an OEM YUASA Battery for £51 complete ( a sealed for life jobby) The list price was £71.09 but as Sherwoods /Charlie knows me I got a bit of a discount
Much easier to replace than take out.
Reconnect Optimate and the Scott oiler
Job Done
I could have got one in the post from M&P, Busters- etc all about £49 plus P&P, the cheapest I found one was £31 plus P&P (dry charged with no acid) so my local shop won
