Backlash in the BRIDGE COMP FORK TOP.

If you hold the handlebars and rocking back and forth is loose in the rubber that sits between.

Is this common in XRV? it is possible to replace the rubber?

It is not common, but this is what I am about to do. Replacing the soft rubber w/ Delrin bushings. dI don't mind a bit of vibration is I gain a stiffer handle bar.

I don't know where you can source replacement parts. I will be making my own from urethane.

I was always under the impression that the rubber dampening inserts inside the top yoke are not available separately. They are considered by Honda to be part of the yoke assembly.

Lee may be your answer, if you ask him nicely?!!!!

You are correct the four bushings are not available separately from the yoke itself. The design BTW is the same as on most bikes. So no rocket science. I am swapping to solid bushings because I am tired of having to realign the handlebars each time the bike is dropped when doing off-road.

Those original rubber bushings are in fact quite simple. Conical sleeve at the top and bottom. Encased in rubber, which is cast into a steel sleeve. The steel sleeve is simply pressed into the yoke and stops when it touches a ridge in the middle, halfway between top and bottom. The PITA is removing that sleeve.

Re: Backlash in the BRIDGE COMP FORK TOP.

Spent an hour with a hammer and a chisel removing the rubber inserts and their steel sleeve. The sleeve is difficult to remove. I slightly gouged the walls but it doesn't matter as the delrin bushings will be pressed in and it won't show. I'll make a spare set if "somebody" wants to test them.

A good tip to remove the metal sleeve is to use a junior hacksaw and cut a slot in the sleeve, when you get very close to the aluminuim yoke the sleeve will be weak and will likely prize out worth a screwdriver

You're correct. That is what I usually do. But in this case, there's a ridge in the center of the comp. It is not possible to use a hacksaw without damaging the upper stay. I'll post pictures.
