Production AT vs the racing one

How similar is the AT we own to those used in desert races etc?

Could you actually use a production AT in the same way?

marathon bikes are very loosely based on production, works bikes are totally different whatever the press department tells you!!...

personally i would be very worried if i rode a production bike on any event with out quit a few upgrades, no production AT would last a raid in stock form thats for sure (with the obvious exception of the RD03 Marathon), as far eligatibility then it would only be allowed in the open and modified class on most raids as the ceiling is normally 450cc for stock and FIm.

Events Like the Dakar although run under FIa and FIm rules the classes are not regulated so to some extent you can do what you want as long as the bike/car/truck complies to the safety and build regs... more information on these is available in the FIA constuctors book.

Just saw this thread and Jenna, words fail me.

At least I learned a new term today. Something like "homologation" doesn't pop up much in normal conversation but now I'm going to try and work it in somehow.

3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
