    electric start dead

Everything going fine then parked up to collect my daughter from school and ... nothing. All the fuses are fine, all other electrics work fine. The run/stop switch is inthe right place (and had not been touched).
It bumped started and ran so we got home but the starter button is still dead.
    Answers on a postcard please......

I don't know if this is related but my RD04 will only start if the handlebars are on full lock to the left. If they're in the middle the starter is completely dead.
    Very strange!

    Nice one Whealie.....

I would start with the switch dismantled and check out the connections..... summats gone squiffy.... see if you get a load to the switch, then check to the s/motor...

or.... It could be a trapped cable thats got chaffed and shorting to earth..

    Re: electric start dead

Could be the starter solenoid/main fuse. IIRC the lights etc will still work if it kills the main fuse.

Corrosion caused overheating and melted the main fuse/fuse holder on my old RD03. Everything looked ok. The bugger just wouldn't spin over.

I'm an electrical numpty. I seem to recall the starter span on mine when I shorted the terminals on the solenoid. Shat myself too as I didn't expect it.

I thoroughly recommend getting a second opinion on anything I say regarding electrics.

More specifically, hit the shiney cylinder to the left of the battery with a hammer.
