    Attempted Theft

Came the other night to find my Twin sat in the middle of the car park, front side panel hanging off, ignition barrel hammered out and the wiring a right mess. Yep some b******s tried to steal it.

Not exactly sure how they thought they'd get it through a locked security gate or the pedestrian gate which isn't wide enough. Luckily they didn't manage to hot-wire it. Still cost me £300 in repairs though.

    Quite an annoying week!

    Re: Attempted Theft

Similar thing happened to me. They hammered a screwdriver down the ignition switch and didn't stop until they realised the bike had brake disc locks front and rear plus a chain looped around a pole plus steering lock. Why on earth do these morons BEGIN by completely destroying the ignition switch??? They're not going anywhere with the bike regardless!

    They're obviously retarded.

Some day I'll rig a bike with C4.

String them up by their short and curlies

It's one good thing about living over here (very little theft of vehicles of any kind), and yet another reason why I wouldn't consider the UK if I decide to move on. Gawd, the thought of having to fit two disc locks and a chain is just a nightmare!

Sorry to hear that mate, glad they didn't get away with the bike tho. Makes me glad that I live in a country of midgets, sorry I didn't mean that, they're "vertically challenged" people. (Thankfully, too short to ride an @.)

Sorry to hear this. Someone tried to have my TA a few years back - broke the steering lock and probably wanted to wheel it away, but obviously didn't notice the disk lock. As you all noticed, they aren't too bright are they....

Happened to me, though fortunately they seem to have noticed the fscking great lock round the wheel before starting on the wiring. Don't see how anyone can fail to hotwire the bike though. Not that I'll post details here.

You can get a cheap ignition switch (as good or maybe better than original) from http://patternparts.net for 35 pounds, part number PPT 735791. And he's dead quick at delivery too. The switch fits but the block connector is different; Yen cunningly discovered that the wiring (even the colours) is identical so you can just push the spade connectors out of the plastic blocks, swap the blocks over, and it all fits.

Here's where Yen tells us how to do it:
