What tyre pressure is in yours?

Hi, This is a bit of a follow on from mikefletchers post which turned out to be the head bearings.

There were a couple of posts quoting the different pressures some riders run their ATs at.

I've had Trailwings for a few years (which I loved) but am now on Michelin Anakees. Apparently, I weigh 16 stone but the bike doesn't seem to mind.

The pressures are 29 front and 30 rear. Plus a couple of p.s.i. in the wet/with a passenger.

I appreciate the different pressures for the TKC's or whichever offroadish tyres some people run. It's the road based tyres I'd like to ask about. I've tried pressures of high 30's and even 40 but, ended up with very little feedback and they felt very skittery(unstable).

So what pressure do you run at and why?

12!!!!!! How could you not notice 12 PSI!!

Running 30 all round on mine.

I just found out that one of my foot pumps under-reads as when I checked with it it reckoned I was down to 24 on both. Adjusted and it felt well nasty. Double checked with my digi reader and the other pump and it was actually running 37 PSI.

    Binned that pump then.

It matters not, you make a crackin cup of tea!
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Tried the stock settings of I think 29/30 or whatever but I find that with my Tourance's they like 32/36 one or two up.
I have found that a little more air than recomended does seem to make the tires last longer.
Remember, the leading cause of tire failure is underinflation.
This i con is cool Personally I use a wire wheel from my grinder!!

Wow, don't think I'll be trying the 12psi route but, perhaps a few more may work out ok. Haven't done more than a couple of thousand miles on the Anakees yet so I'll just have to experiment a bit...TA

I remember the handling being atrocious but I thought it was because my bars needed reseating!

Re: What tyre pressure is in yours?

I bought a digital pressure guage a while ago and noticed 4psi differance to the telescopic thingy I was using. I have been running 29psi front and back so both tyres were under inflated.
Both front and rear tyres were wearing out at about 8,000miles. With my new digi guage the last set of Scorpions have seen 10,000 on the rear before replacemnt and the front has done 12,000 with maybe 2,000 more life in it.
So this new guage has payed for it self and some.

Cheers Muckybill...Give us a clue though mate, What type of digital gauge have you got? I've used the telescopic one by Halfords(Recommended by Ride magazine) for years. Perhaps it's little wonder my tyres don't last very long.
