Oxford Heated Grips vs Motrax Headed Grips

Not sure if this discussion has been done before so point me in the right direction if it has.

    Anyone have a preference?

Spoke to the local bike shop today and they said they sold unbranded ones as they had a lot of complaints regarding the Oxford ones. Apparently one grip is often hotter than the other.

I can see the benefits of having the temperature adjustable though.

Both roughly about the same price.

MCN did rate the Motrax ones according to to their brochure.

Need to buy some tomorrow or Friday as i'm fitting the new bars at the weekend.

Hi Wold Rider. Have you considered the handlebar muffs? Combined with the heated grips, they are fantastic and easy to use.

My grips are Oxford, have lasted a couple of winters( I take them off in Summer) and seem to work the same - heatwise

Honestly can't advise for other makes but the only 'real' problem with the Oxfords is the actual thickness of the complete grip. It just means the grip is thicker, it has to be for the wires, I suppose. But, because of the extra warmth from the muffs, I can still use my Summer gloves. With Winter gloves over 'just' the HotGrips, I found it awkward to use the controls.

    Hi Shel,

Not really feeling the muff option... Don't think they lend themselves to the rugged good looks of the Africa Twin.

I bet they're warm though! Infact I reckon you could steam veg with that combo!

I've got Oxfords on mine and I like 'em. The one side hotter than the other thing is due to the throttle twist - to keep the grips the same diameter the wires are bound to be closer to the surface on that side as its got a larger internal diameter to fit over the twister so with the wires closer to the surface, you feel more heat getting out of it... maybe.... possibly.....

Oh, I dunno, I just like 'em end of.......

Re: Oxford Heated Grips vs Motrax Headed Grips

    Hi Wold Rider,

while I can't comment on the difference between the brands, I bought a set of Oxford grips from the NEC bike show, within a month the controller packed up, I didn't know who I had bought them from so couldn't get a refund, so bought another set off eBay just for the controller. These are working fine, I haven't noticed the difference in temperature between the grips, but to say I never need them above half heat or I can't hold the handlebars

Wouldn't be without them, especially this morning with a layer of snow covering the bike.

Also spares are available for Oxford grips through any Oxford dealer (£20 approx for the controller) I don't know about the Motrax.

My Oxford Heated Grips are useless, they can only just about manage to get warm.
