Question How long will she last...

Umm... Looks like I've got postpone my RTW trip for 18months...

So the question is this... Eloisa currently has 23.5K on her, problem is I'm clocking 1500-2000 miles a month up on her, cus I just enjoy riding her so much, but I don't wanna shag her completly before I leave and put another 50K on her doing the RTW... Will I just need to spend a good sum sorting her out before I leave...? (Would you take a 50K+ bike RTW?)...

So the Big question, do I need another Bike in the interim? (Currently considering McVicars Vara...)

    Any thoughts people...?

    (Ohh McV... Don't post a reply!!! )

A 50k loved bike could be in better condition then a 5k hacker bike...
so if you put on the 50 and maintain her well then f-yeah.. at least you will know all of her moods

what sort of distance will you be doing on the trip? I know a guy local to me who has over 108,000 mls on his and thats after a 3 year RTW trip, and she's still going really well. If it was me i might just do what your thinking and buy another bike to keep the mileage down on the @ but thats just me. You know your bike.

Buy a hacker AT for now and when the time comes use it for spares for the RTW bike.... that way.... when you return you have reasonable chance of making a good bike out of the two and selling any leftovers to fund for new parts.....
    Simple innit ?

Good luck on the trip...... can we all come?

Naaa, keep using the bike & take it RTW when you get the oportunity, you will get to know the bike inside out in the meantime.
Just go round a lube all the elec connections with petroleum jelly to keep the gremlins at bay!

Seriously, I donŽt think a bike with a good allround lookover would be troublesome on a long trip, since youŽre willing to spend some money buying a bike to use in the meantime, maybe it would be better to change and properly lube most bearings, and give the engine and clutch a proper onceover, that being done IŽld say a high mileage Honda twin is prone to problems as much as any other low mileage bike.

I really wouldn't worry. At least riding it all the time will make you aware of anything that needs doing long before you go.

50,000 miles is nothing on these engines as long as you keep the oil fresh etc!

50K - nothing. What use is a bike stood in a shed, he needs to be used or she will got to rat sh*t. Take her RTW for a ride out and enjoy.

ps do the RAC do RTW cover?
