When I collected the bike i bought of flebay during the week it didn't fire up on 2 cylinders and seemed quite lumpy. It warmed up then picked the front cylinder up and seemed OK.
I wasn't too woried about this, figured it must just be carburation or electrical.
Sat down yesterday morning, searched this forum and decided the choke was a good place to start investigation.
Lo and behold...... the choke barrel/slide/jet thing on the front carb was stuck in the on position.
If anyone else has a similar problem on a bike that's been stood over the winter it's a doddle to sort out.
whip the tank off and air box off,(about 5 minutes)
By waggling the clutch cables where they go into the plastic housing on the carb you may be abale to suss out if theyre stuck.
If not, slacken the circlips on the intake's and waggle the carbs free.
The black plastic cable housing should just unscrew from the carb bringing the cable, choke jet/barrel/slide thing with it.
If it doesn't ( mine was full of crap where the cable locates due to the cable and cable end corroding).
Release the choke cable at the bars to give a bit of free play, pull the cable outer back at the carb end to expose the inside of the black plastic housing, Squirt GT85 or similar into the plastic housingto clear some of the crap.
Then, turn carbs on their side so the housing is facing up over, fill the housing with Gt 85 and go have a brew while it works it's way into the carb body. 5 minutes and a bit of "persusion" later the choke slide/barrel/jet thingy was free.
Cleaned it up, refitted it , checked the other (rear one), removed the 33BHP restrictors from the inlet stubs and wahey, fires up straight away, runs smoothe and pulls strong.
If you can service the bike yourself you can sort this in about 45 minutes![]()
