    African queens seats

Well, had the bike all of two weeks and I'm already reaching out for advice on the following:

With quite a few miles covered over the last fortnight, my arse says its time to invest in an aftermarket seat. Have read all the comments previously posted about the various options concerning this topic, however, unable to find any reference to the seats on sale by African Queens.

Have had a price back from Tom from AQ in Holland of £300 quid for their leather saddle option (4cm higher than stock) which seems to tie in with Touratechs one. My question is has anyone bought a saddle from African Queens and if so could they give me some feedback.

    Again, thanks for any help.....

ps. Is it legal in this country to stand up on the pegs for large lengths of time?

i feel your pain i also had that same problem and purchased a corbin seat i was told these were very comfortable but i now find that i am no better off than i was with the honda seat and now i slip on the corbin where i didn't on the honda but can now securely rest both feet on the ground as it is slightly lower[ i think it would have been more comfortable to have spread the £'s over the old seat and used that as padding]. 2 seats and still in pain choose wisely my friend.

Corbin saets are a joke. They once built great seats and were the gold standard. They now just a name, yet people still purchase as you did only to find out the hard way that they aren't worth the funds spent. Here in the states I've heard the same statement made over and over, no better than the stock for comfort and the seats are slippery. They also put you in an odd riding postion.

    Re: African queens seats

I have an African Queens seat fitted - bought my AT in April 1998 and put up with the standard seat for almost 6 months. Had to send them the seat and they returned the finished item in a couple of weeks. I have now had this fitted for 60,000 miles and the suede top has faded in colour and shows some wear where I sit - the suede is now a bit smooth. The seat is a lot harder than the standard and probably over an inch higher. No problems with any of the stitching or finish on the seat - I would happily buy another one from them. I think they now do a few choices of materials and colours when I bought mine the only did the one type.
If you need pics I can post some up tomorrow.

I also dislike the standard seat, had the softer foam fitted for 20 quid and it is a little better. That said, if i decide to keep the bike i will fit a known good seat example gold wing. This i will do by making new metal brackets to secure it and get a good position. Then to address the fact that it wont blend in with the rest of the bike , i will drape a fleece over it. The end of the day sore arse = unhappy rider.

The oppion of the upholsterer is what i agree with, and that is the base is all wrong, no support in the needed areas too bloody narrow

So it up to you£300 quid or cheap second hand and alot of fiddling yourself and guarenteed comfort maybe not look so hot though?

CM Seats will re-cover yours and make it more comfy/ add in gel inserts for half that price.

Alternatively have you tried an "Airhawk" pad, these get good reports too

Suffered the same @rse ache myself when first getting the Twin, (despite the previous owner getting the seat redone, wider and thicker foam).

However, got a 3" thick foam cushion cut to fit and imitation leathered (separate 2" thick foam for pillion seat), they both "velcro" tie under the seat. The pads definitely reduced the problem for less than GBP10.00.

The down side of course is, if you are "vertically challenged", the extra height wouldn't help you much, unless you used "Elton John" style '70s platform boots.

The biggest difference I found though, was when I changed tyres, from Metzler Saharas to Tourances. Good Grief what a difference! I can now ride for 4-5 hours without even a twinge

good point, never really considered that, I can see how tyres and even tyre pressures could make quite a difference
