    1st problems

Finally got to have a ride o the AT last night after fitting the new rims etc.

Bike started easily every time so far and I've also fitted a new Varta battery the other week.

On the way home I noticed that the indicators were flashing irregularly when accelerating. I put it down to a loose connection or bad earth.

Once I arrived home I turned the bike off whilst I went in to get the garage key. I tried to start the bike to drive it into that garage and all the lights dipped. I heard a crackle presumably from the starter motor and then all power failed. I tried again and again the same happened.

I then turned off all the lights and the heated grips. Finally it started.

I went to start the bike again this morning to go to work and again the same happened. This time the lights and grips weren't on and the bike then failed to start at all. It also refuses to power up at all now.

    Have I killed her?

Could the starter motor be sticking and have popped a fuse. Haven't been able to investigate further as of yet.

I wired the heated grips into the fan circuit and made a good earth. It shouldn't be them?

    Re: 1st problems

Hmmmm....could be the old Reg/Rec problem...certainly sounds like the symptoms I had when mine went. As far as I know it was never replaced on that bike.

Mine started playing up almost as soon as I wired up my heated grips as it happens. Killed the battery and a new one only fended off the symptoms for a few weeks. Eventually replaced the Reg/Rec with a pattern part (£55 as opposed to £100+ for Mr Hondas version) and all was well...although I did remind myself not to be such a big Jesse and removed the heated grips just incase.

You said you`ve fitted a new battery.

Check the battery terminal connections are secure.

Also check no positive connector is shorting to earth.

    Check all fuses as well.

Umm really dumb arse question, but did you charge the new battery before putting it in? A lot of batteries need to be fully slow charged before use.

If you get the bike started up you should check the battery voltage when motor is running. Get the rpm to 4000 and check that readings. Anything over 15v is too much and then you too should get new regulator.

That strange noise is probably coming from starter relay if battely voltage is too low.
