Engine rattle/clutch area also rattle from offside under load

    hi guys n gals

new guy here posting for the first time

I have a RD07@ devoloped a rattle or 2 main 1 is in the clutch housing when u pull the clutch in the rattle dissapears when it warms up......anyway i have stripped the clutch and noticed that the springs are loose in the clutch housing apart from 2!(not the 4 release springs)....is this common??(on a carīs clutch plate i would personally replace this!)...is this normal?...as this rattling bugs the **** out of me..thats 1 rattle..lol(also thinking of replacing the clutch housing)

the other which i think is more serious sounds like its on the right hand side and u can only here it under load in first second and third......it sounds like a knock which is rotating its louder in first gear..then slows down in second..and obviously even slower and quieter in third.......by the time u get to forth and fith its more or less gone...ive noticed that now ive got it stripped there seems to be alot of "backlash" in the first three gears and none in the last 2(ingear twisting driveshaft left and right u can feel it taking up the slack before the drive sprocket moves)........thats alot to take in i know but any input will be super......before i rebuild it!

    cheers

    oh and

the drive sprocket is slightly worn which im gonna replace anyway with chain..also the clutch is well within its service limits

    all hail haynes......hehe

btw im a car mechanic and i know bits about bikes but not loads

    cheers again

and yes i did use the search function but to no joy

My RD04 has a similar rattle that I have yet to investigate.... I was suspecting thrust springs and now you have pretty much confirmed it... unless anyone pops up and tells us different I would hazard that the sprung plate will need changing as its not normal to rattle and could indicate fatigue/wear....

Chad/Yen/BobA ect..... c'mon guys.... tells us the bad news....

yer....when i stripped the clutch down and done a few checks the only thing i found was 4 of the 6 springs in the clutch housing that are loose...to me thats no good...so im gonna replace the clutch housing when i get back from my holidays in tennerif..(wish i had me AT with us!!!)

will post in this thread if it cures it or not

    cheers

it could be the springs etc but bear in mind that the clutchs are noisy by nature on the @ anyway..but boba or yen will give a more satisfying answer as i never had any clutch problems on my @
