Trip master question - and it aint broke...yet

Is it possible to switch the tripmaster from Miles to Kilometers?

I live in Ireland and dont understand the feckers. As far as i know its about .5km to a mile......i am well aware this is sooo wrong

If your trip meter only counts .5 km per mile something's wrong. The real ratio is 1.6 km to a mile. Start with cleaning all the contacts to the trip meter to see if it helps.

As of converting to miles, yeah that can be done. You need to solder a 10k ohm resistor inside the trip and at the same time you can also enable the km/h display on it with another 10k resistor.

When assembling the unit pay an attention to the condition of large rubber seal around the unit. Mine was pretty badly cracked so sealed the unit with some silicone sealant at the same time.

How good are your “electronic” skills? In the picture that I have attached there is an "area" (in the circle) for a resistor that says “mile”, inside the tripmaster. As far as I know for the models designated for the Greek market, this "area" is blank and the tripmaster displays kilometres. If yours has a resistor in place, you could try unsoldering it VERY CAREFULLY!

Vegeta, your picture has a very close resemblance to the picture on atic site

Right so thats a lot of work to for a little bit of easyness.

Is there honestly not a way to do it easier? Do they come standard to a country with the settings?

If you are not familiar with soldering 0805 surface mount components then leave it alone! - get somebody who does a lot of soldering and they can either whip off the resistors or fit them dpending whether you want MPH or KMH. Might as well get the SPD - displayed at the same time ( Speed display is only in KMH and there is no way to switch it to MPH ). Have a look at the atic.org website it has detailed instructions.

    Good luck!

I can't say I have whole lot of soldering experience, and didn't find it difficult. The hardest part is to actually remove the trip from bike. You'd also need to raid some old piece of equipment (I used a dead floppy drive) for the resistor(s).

Depending on the market the bike was originally intended the trips come hard "wired" for mile/km display. My bike, although had a mph speedo, had a km trip so I presume it was originally a gray import to UK.

Anyway, by taking the trip apart you can check the water seal at the same time and then it's just a tiny bit more work to do the conversion. Go on, billy.fish, you know you want to do it!

I've no luck with solder usually but I took mine to bits and had a poke around, well, couldn't find a resistor so bridged the gap with solder! Worked fine! Took all of an hour to remove and put back on.

I ran the bike for two years and never had any problems. As it was reading km I reckoned I would just replace the thing if the idea failed but no problem at all.

Follow the info on the ATIC site and you can't go wrong mate.
