    Brake Pads

Hi Just about to source some brake pads (front) for my AT. There seems to be GG (organic) OR HH (Sintered) which seems to be for off road/race use. Does it matter what I fit (i.e do the HH need uprated matching brake discs????) .

    Martin.

    Hi Sting-Stiz
I'm wondering exactly the same thing.
I've been told by a friend that the sintered are better quality and they should be OK with any discs. If anyone can advise, we'd be grateful

    Re: Brake Pads

Just helping to 'bump up' the thread. Someone will surely enlighten us all soon - please!!

I'm running cast discs at the moment and there doesn't seem to be any real feel to them, I honestly thought they were stronger when I first put them on a few months ago but am now wondering

Has anyone a preference between the original discs and cast or which pads to use on either.

    Re: Brake Pads

Found the following. May help....may not

CAN I USE ANY BRAKE PAD MATERIAL ON CAST IRON?
Generally speaking, most organic (semi-metallic) brake pads are good for use on iron rotors. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer for details regarding specific use for this application. Ferodo Platinum, CP911, CP901, 4004F, 3485F, 3410F and I/D450 are all good for this. Although the various sintered metal pads will perform quite well, they generally operate at substantially higher interface temperatures (by as much as 150 degrees [F] at peak). The result is usually shortened life span of the rotor and as such, sintered metal pads are universally not recommended unless specifically denoted otherwise.
    • Gray Iron rotors: Sintered metal pads ARE NOT RECOMMENDED for use under any conditions.
    • Based on extensive dyno testing, results show it is acceptable to run Ferodo SinterGrip ST pads on BrakeTech Ductile Iron rotors (dual disc application only; Buell riders should use either Platinum or CP911 organic pads).

I use EBC sintered HH on my stock discs. p/n FA185R
They came recommended to me and seem to be wearing
    and performing ok.

    Re: Brake Pads

Cheers GSPD750, that's helped a lot thanks with the choice of pads.

Still not sure which discs/rotors to use though. I'll have to change back and have a play.

    Re: Brake Pads

Yep, EBC HH used on all my bikes. NB - standard discs are stainless, not cast iron so the quote above is not strictly relevant.

HH are a massive improvement over stock, highly recommended. They do wear the disc a bit more, but only if you use the fact you can brake harder...

    Re: Brake Pads

I think sintered pads are ok with stainless discs... but don't quote me...

Does anyone know what material honda used for the discs... I'm assuming 420 grade, but again, I am guessing.

Does anyone know if carbon metallic pads are available for XRV750?
I come from racing car world... where everyone is using cast iron discs and carbon metallic pads... they transform the braking of any car... I imagine they would be great on the twin...

More questions than answers I'm afraid..

They are indeed - The EBC HH I run on my bikes are intended for use on standard stainless rotors or aftermarket cast iron ones. Sorry, just quoted you...

Not sure how much extra braking power I'd want on the AT - those long travel forks and narrow knobbly tyre don't make for superbike levels of control under heavy braking...
