    gear box went to hell

night, highway, 5th gear, 110 kmh, 300 km behind - 50 still ahead
350km is the distance between my home town (EILAT) to TELL AVIV.
suddenly the engine start reving up while the speed reduced,
b*ll*cks - the clutch died, i thought, aauutch thats gonna hurt tommorow my credit card screamd. wile i was preying the AT's god to let me get to the hotel with no external help.
next morning the bike is in the workshop, the gear broke down!
with only 63.000km ! with the clutch friction plates in a perfectly good shape. no burned oil.
    1300 pounds is the dammage.

i own the bike for a few years now, with no problems what so ever,
about everyone i know tells me that AT's do not have this kind of problems, not with 63K km.
i trust the diagnose is correct since it was made in my presence (the opening of the engine)

    thats it.
was wondering if anyone here had that kind of problem?

    cheers

I had this happen at with the AT at less than 20,000 miles - it hurt me too so I know how you feel. I didn't get any comfort in people telling me it shouldn't happen either...

Sorted now though and hasn't missed a beat since (then again I should think so too!)
    I'm going on a trip!

Is this the chain over tightening that destroys the output shaft?

one of the forks is twisted and dammaged 3 gears as well as the oil pump and one of the bearings,
probably a hit that the shift lever took, strange becouse this bike was always with the rubber side down - to the best of my knowledge.

i alway keep the chain and sprocket lube & tite propery.

You say you keep the chain tight, this may be your problem, the AT chain needs to be loose, very loose, not tight, according to Honda it should have 45mm of movement at the middle below the swing arm, many people prefer to go a little more than this.

It's because of the long travel of the suspension, modern sports bikes have much less travel and are tightened much more, my garage overtightens my chain, I had to slacken it again after they had it

very true always allow 65mm of chain travel when the bike is on the centerstand..
