    panniers...what ones?

Thinking about what panniers to fit on the rd07.Might settle on the Zega ones...looking at their web site there is almost a 50 quid difference in the pre-assembled panniers.....anyone know if its worth getting them already made up.What is there to assemble anyway!I thought they were made from one piece of allimuniminiumiun....metal.
Looking at the Hepco & becker Co. site they don't seem to have any for the AT....heard they're good.Metal Mule are good too i hear......where do i go?Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Just looked at the touratech site and realised its the pre drilling thingy for the panniers to go on the frames....thats what the extra 50 is for....right!!!!!!

Hepco and Becker panniers fit the AT - Motobins is the UK supplier and they do frames for the AT.

I use there expedition panniers and they are great - robust and look good too. The Plastic Gobi ones are pretty fantastic too - and being plastic you won't have the black powder problem they are more expensive than the expedition panniers.
    I'm going on a trip!

I've got Givi on mine Spain - damn fine for the use I give em - except I WISH I'd gone smaller - width is a real problem with all the AT panniers I've seen so far
RD07a, reg in 2001, Black, heated grips, short screen, Scottoiler, Givi top box and panniers, DataTag, full Riky Cross crash bars, Baglux tank cover, Facet pump, mostly 200 miles to reserve and presently a lot happier since being loved up at Chad's hospital for sick ATs!

Had Hepco Junior's (I think thats what they were called) on my AT. Funnily enough sold them to MacP...then bought them back off him months later for a mate of mine!

Cracking little boxes, with really sturdy locks and catches and totally waterproof.

I now have the H&B Gobi boxes on my Vara, and they're just as well made.

    Re: panniers...what ones?

I agree with Robster on the H+B Juniors - had my set since 1999 only fitted and used for high days and holidays but they are totally watertight and really strong - I have twatted a number of car mirrors when filtering and caught the top of a road cone with one when cornering a bit hard cranked right over - completely forgot about the panniers heard a loud bang and a road cone flying through the air behind me - oops! The 40 litre ones give the bike a real big arse and in hindsight I would probably go for the 30 litre volume as they are a few inches narrower. 40 litre ones are only same width as the handlebars BUT lower down so it is easy to wriggle the bike down a gap and then find the boxes hitting car door mirrors! My preference would be no luggage at all as it does b*gger up the handling/balance but a can of "Lynx" only lasts so long!! ( Call me Mr Stinky )

Hmm yes, my Vara, not reputed for having the smallest rear in the bike world to begin with, is a rather Wide Load when I'm all boxed up!

Hey Robster...I think I'm in love. Is that ever a nice set-up you got there with the Gobi's. Black too. I've never even seen a Varadero (very rare in North America)...and if they were, I would be sooo tempted. Must be great 2 up.
I know my wife would want one just for the top box.

    Hi,

I put up a basic outline of how I fitted my Zega's including what's involved to fit the brackets (pucks?) to the Zega panniers -
