    Speedo Bust!

One minute it said 90mph, then as I'm coming up to the 50mph bit of the A3 near Tolworth (With the bloody speed camera!) I look down again and...0.

    Great.

Anyone know if it's more likely to be the cable or the internals?

I was on my way to Tippetts Honda...and they told me a new internal nylon cog thing is £70!!!

It's only just short of 30,000 miles too, quite disappointed it's broken already!

    It's well worth checking first.

I had this on three occasions recently, and every time the cable had unscrewed itself from the back of the clock, for no apparent reason.

Each time, as I couldn't be a%sed to take the fairing off, I was just poking my fingers up the back and screweing it back in as tight as I could. On the last occasion, I used a bit of mild blue threadlock and it hasn't happened since.

Worth checking before lobbing out any cash!

    Hi Tim,

It could be either the cable, the gear drive or the clocks.
Check the cable first (cheapest & most likely) then the gear (spin the wheel, when the cable is off) it'l be unlikely to be the clocks.

As far as I remember, there's a little sort of tabbed washer inside that sits against the nylon bit. I think if you flex the tabs slightly outwards that can help. Think that's what I did once.....or I might have dreamed it, cant be sure.

I have had this too, happened on a very rough track in Morocco and I assumed something terrible had happened to the speedo drive due to all the impacts. Checking over the bike that evening at the hotel I noticed the cable floating around, re-connected it and it has worked fine since.

    Re: Speedo Bust!

Your nylon gear drive is £17- FACT so don't worry even if it is the drive it wont cost the earth to fix.

Rykers ? Maybe,as with last time only if I finish up in that area!
